As we were getting all excited for TR3N, Disney announced the shelving of the TRON sequel.  We have lots to say about this, but this week we talk to Ernie Estrella from BLASTR.com about his ideas for the future of the GRID.

We think we have a great plan for the continuation of the franchise.  It has to do with the amazing animated series, TRON: Uprising.

Last week, VanCity Buzz reported that the next TRON sequel is set to start shooting in Vancouver this October.  Of course, SHAZ, SHUA, and JAMIE chime in on what we might expect in this (finally) upcoming sequel.  Taking notes from TRON: Legacy and bonus features from the Blu-Ray release, TRON: Decoding the Grid speculates what might happen in this long-anticipated addition to the GRID, leaving only one question:

Will we see a new MCP?

Greetings, Programs!

Thirty-two years ago (and a week), the world was treated to a unique experience with the release of TRON, a Disney production that combined live action, traditional animation, backlight techniques, and computer generated graphics on a scale which had never before been seen.  Developed from the imagination of Steven Lisberger upon seeing the potential in backlit graphics and computer animation, TRON embraced and amplified the expanding world of computers before the world at large truly understood them or their potential.

TRON has been embraced by a community of fans who saw it when it was released in 1982, fans who were introduced to it later, and even the generation whose first TRON experience came in the form of TRON: Legacy and TRON: Uprising have recognized the amazing story, themes, and industry-changing processes created out of necessity to tell this story bridging two worlds on either side of the computer screen.

JAMIE joins SHUA and SHAZ this month to talk about some of the behind-the-scenes aspects of this truly innovative feature.

PLUS: You can wear a bit of TRON on your wrist if you act soon by going to touchofmodern.com and checking out some of the glowing timepieces offered there this week.  One favorite is the SEVENwatch with two discs on the face that comes in TRON blue, SARK red, or USER white.

What if the MCP was the operating system for the WOPR computer?  WarGames has been running in the background for the past couple weeks, and we have notices several similarities between these two computer-oriented movies from the early 80s.  Taking what we know from TRON and casting the internal circuits of the WOPR with PROGRAMS from TRON, we imagine what might be happening inside the brain of the WarGames computer in this episode of TRON: Decoding the Grid.

We know TRON as the story of two worlds and the beings who inhabit them. Our world is the one we can see and feel; the one on our side of the screen.  We are the USERS.  The other world is an electronic micro-civilization nestled in a digital existence.  The PROGRAMS inhabiting this virtual reality are our own creations and avatars, because we, the USERS, have created this new world, part of us lives there, too.

SHAZ and SHUA step up to the mics this week to record a running commentary on the 1982 original TRON.  Get out your Blu-rays and DVDs, nuke some popcorn in the microwave, turn on the TV and settle in for TRON with your earbuds!

The Story of TRON depends on music as much as it does on computer-generated special effects.  Since 1982, music has been created in tribute to TRON and/or in the stylings of TRON.  In this episode, SHAZ and SHUA put some pieces of music together to tell the story of TRON.

TEKFORCE joins the party with his own addition to the GRID, “Stuck in a Bit World” from the upcoming album The Lightcycle Chronicles.  You can find TEKFORCE on Twitter @teknique45 and on the album Nerdcore Emulation Station (NES) on Bandcamp.

Also featured in this episode is a new album covering the original Wendy Carlos soundtrack with a guitar-rich twist.  STEMAGE released the album PRIORITY ONE: The Music of Tron last summer.  Some of the tracks from this album have been heard on previous episodes of TRON: Decoding the Grid.  Check out STEMAGE on Twitter and pick up the album on iTunes.

The Uprising has just begun, and even though TRON: Uprising has yet to return for a second season, USERS and PROGRAMS are talking about the possibilities all over the GRID. This episode of TRON: Decoding the Grid is totally devoted to communications received via the I/O TOWER from listeners.

This week, ASTRAICA from UNITED TRON ARMY is back to talk about an idea for another animated TRON series to continue the story we saw in TRON: Uprising.  KingJ has submitted a thorough story treatment for a possible (and plausible) series set during and after the events of TRON: Legacy called, TRON: Resurrection.  This story treatment is worth reading and discussing, and we do both!

Plus, some questions came to our friend Santiago from Spain when he was rewatching “Terminal” again.  It just goes to show you that this series bears repeat views and allows you to see new things every time.  JAMIE answers our call for technical assistance in dealing with Santiago’s questions.

The title of this episode of TRON: Uprising is TERMINAL, but does it refer to the virus infecting TRON or the premature and sudden end of this incredible animated series?

In hopes of answering this question, SPENCER and ASTRAICA return to talk TRON: Uprising with SHAZ & SHUA, where it takes a brave person to stand against oppression, and perhaps an even braver one to JOIN THE CRAZY!

Just when the UPRISING had begun, the season (and so far the series) is over. But the concept lives on and more stories are yet to be told. Not only do we talk about the visually stunning animation and exciting story, but everyone chimes in about what could possibly come next.

CYRUS is back, and he is determined to make life difficult for BECK. Deceptions abound, trust is challenged, friends are betrayed, and hope is nearly lost by the end of this penultimate episode of the first season of TRON: Uprising.

MARA believes her eyes instead of her head and heart. ZED thinks CYRUS is one of the coolest PROGRAMS in town. BECK confronts TRON about hiding the truth from him. ABLE attempts to be the voice of reason and a helping hand -- and pays for it.

KELLER has escaped, but TESLER wants her back.  After all, she destroyed all the work she had done for him when she left.  All of ARGON CITY is on the alert for this defector, so she has to get out of town...fast!

Nearly all of this episode takes place on the SILVER STREAK, which is the other name for the ARGON CITY EXPRESS.  The high stakes and fast pace of this episode keeps you on the edge of your seat for the entire twenty-two minutes of some of the best animation you have ever seen on television!  But the real story boils down to the growing friendship between BECK and PAIGE, two PROGRAMS on opposite sides of the OCCUPATION debate who start to see that there is more to the other than politics.

Can an episode of TRON: Uprising be fantastic even without TRON or the TRON SUIT?  We think so.  KERMMIT joins SHAZ and SHUA this week to talk about the sixteenth episode of TRON: Uprising.

Not a three-hour tour, so to speak, but the results were the same -- the Renegade and Paige have become stranded on an island and have to team-up to get back to Argon City.

In their “isolation”, they have time to consider the hostility between them and the reasons behind it.  We are privileged to discover some tidbits from Paige’s past that show us why she feels a bit “isolated” from just about everyone.  (Who knew she was a musician?  or a Med Program, for that matter?)

What do you think?  Are the ISOs the cause for isolating yourself from your past and the things that make you who you are?

High Adventure lyricist Spencer and trumpeter Meghan the TechnoRetro MOM join SHAZ and SHUA for a WICKED COOL, TOTALLY TUBULAR look at TRON: Uprising “Isolated” on this episode of TRON: Decoding the Grid.

This week, we cover TRON: Uprising “Identity”.

The identity of the Renegade as well as the future of the Uprising is endangered when an enterprising program swipes Beck's disc off his back and sells it in the "bad part of town" in Argon City.  Jovial Jay returns to help SHAZ & SHUA decode this episode of TRON: Uprising!

Greetings, Programs!

The Renegade is in a race against time to save programs and friends when TESLER drills too deeply into Argon City’s energy supply.  Pitted against the imminent destruction of the city and shutting down the drill without harming his friend ZED who has entered an underground race in the tunnels of the grid, Beck has to balance stealth, timing, and every ability to meet his most difficult challenge to date.

Craig Batts and Sheldon Norton join the discussion this week as we get to the heart of “Blackout” in this third episode of TRON: Decoding the Grid.

Greetings, Programs!

The Renegade is getting some attention by CLU and General TESLER while some of Beck’s friends are involved in another adventure of their own.  Both story lines converge in a striking conclusion with some parallel lessons to be learned.

Join SHAZ and SHUA as they are joined by experienced podcaster Jovial Jay as we cover TRON: Uprising’s first two-part arc on TRON: Decoding the Grid.

Why does ZED look at MARA as more than a friend and how does it affect the friendship that they have?

Is PAIGE overly obsessed with the Renegade?  If so, why?

Why aren’t General TESLER’s soldiers busy keeping the peace and putting a stop to the criminal element in Argon City if CLU’s purpose is to create the “perfect system”?

These are some important questions, and may (or may not) be answered in this installment of TRON: Decoding the Grid!

Greetings, Programs!

Though TRON: Uprising has not been picked up for a second season, we’re still enjoying watching it a second time.  Now that it’s on Netflix, you can catch it, too!

Join SHAZ and SHUA as they are joined by artist Spencer Brinkerhoff III and filmmaker Sheldon Norton for this first episode of TRON: Decoding the Grid and discuss the pilot episode of TRON: Uprising.

CLU has overtaken the Grid in his effort to create the perfect system.  TRON is nowhere to be found.  When GENERAL TESLER comes to Argon City to enforce the will of CLU, an idealistic program stands up to oppression and finds himself an unlikely (and even unwilling) hero.

Subscribe.  Download.  Tune in for every episode of TRON: Decoding the Grid.
