Greetings, Programs!

As we were getting all excited for TR3N, Disney announced the shelving of the TRON sequel.  We have lots to say about this, but this week we talk to Ernie Estrella from BLASTR.com about his ideas for the future of the GRID.

We think we have a great plan for the continuation of the franchise.  It has to do with the amazing animated series, TRON: Uprising.

Let us know what you think.  Send us an email to podcast@TechnoRetroDads.com or leave a voice message at (209) 878-7323.

Starting the new year off right, SHAZ, SHUA, and JAMIE are back to continue their discussion of the archetypes of TRON.  Based on the concept that all people have a ROOT CODE with similar universal themes in our PROGRAMMING, archetypes have been recognized at least since PLATO’s days in ancient Greece.  In this episode, character archetypes from the 1982 film are addressed.

PLUS: This interesting infographic of LIGHT CYCLES and other vehicles from TRON:

Greetings, Programs!

After sixteen cycles on the GRID, SHAZ, SHUA, and JAMIE are back to talk TRON with a discussion of themes and archetypes present in the classic 1982 movie.  Based on the concept that all people have a ROOT CODE with similar universal themes in our PROGRAMMING, archetypes have been recognized at least since PLATO’s days in ancient Greece — and TRON is loaded with classical archetypes in the futuristic realm of the GRID.

PLUS: A new way to play “Light Cycle”, the documentary Computers Are People, Too shows up in the news, and Oculus Rift lets you ride a LIGHT CYCLE on the GRID — Legacy-style!

We’re glad to be back for another episode of TRON: Decoding the Grid!

Greetings, Programs!

In 1982, TRON was repeatedly featured in reports about cutting-edge computer graphics (and rightfully so), but truth-be-told, many journalists were crediting the computer with animation that was often accomplished by hand and through painstakingly tedious photographic processes.  Go behind-the-scenes with  SHAZ, SHUA, and JAMIE once more as they continue to DECODE the GRID of the original TRON movie as they delve into The Making of TRON

PLUS: The original TRON Soundtrack comes out on translucent blue vinyl and other news.

Let us know what you love about TRON and want to hear on TRON: Decoding the Grid.  And don’t forget to let Disney know how much you like TRON (in all its various presentations) and that you want more!

Greetings, Programs!

In 1982, computer graphics were just in their infancy.  When a major motion picture decided to include digital effects for nearly half of its length, it was a mammoth task.  SHAZ, SHUA, and JAMIE continue to DECODE the GRID by forging ahead with the behind-the-scenes coverage of TRON as they discuss the struggles and successes of making a movie based largely on computer effects.

PLUS: Polaris teases PROGRAMS and USERS alike with their three-wheeled version of a LIGHT-RUNNER, the Slingshot. Light up your listening with these light-up ear buds from NOMA.

Greetings, Programs!

In 1982, TRON stunned the world with its innovative techniques and imaginative story about man swallowed by a machine.  SHAZ, SHUA, and JAMIE continue to DECODE the GRID, quadrant by quadrant, uncovering the mysteries that lie beneath the surface of this continuing classic Disney production.

PLUS: Find out about hand-held 3D scanners and how they may affect TR3N (or not). SARK might just equip his WARRIORS with these ingenious devices to REZ USERS into the DIGITAL WORLD when he invades our side of the screen....

Greetings, Programs!

Thirty-two years ago (and a week), the world was treated to a unique experience with the release of TRON, a Disney production that combined live action, traditional animation, backlight techniques, and computer generated graphics on a scale which had never before been seen.  Developed from the imagination of Steven Lisberger upon seeing the potential in backlit graphics and computer animation, TRON embraced and amplified the expanding world of computers before the world at large truly understood them or their potential.

TRON has been embraced by a community of fans who saw it when it was released in 1982, fans who were introduced to it later, and even the generation whose first TRON experience came in the form of TRON: Legacy and TRON: Uprising have recognized the amazing story, themes, and industry-changing processes created out of necessity to tell this story bridging two worlds on either side of the computer screen.

JAMIE joins SHUA and SHAZ this month to talk about some of the behind-the-scenes aspects of this truly innovative feature.

PLUS: You can wear a bit of TRON on your wrist if you act soon by going to touchofmodern.com and checking out some of the glowing timepieces offered there this week.  One favorite is the SEVENwatch with two discs on the face that comes in TRON blue, SARK red, or USER white.

Greetings, Programs!

What if the MCP was the operating system for the WOPR computer?  WarGames has been running in the background for the past couple weeks, and we have notices several similarities between these two computer-oriented movies from the early 80s.  Taking what we know from TRON and casting the internal circuits of the WOPR with PROGRAMS from TRON, we imagine what might be happening inside the brain of the WarGames computer in this episode of TRON: Decoding the Grid.

PLUS: TRON styled houses and bicycles, and our friend TEKFORCE releases a music video to his single “Stuck in a Bit World”. Join us for about an hour of TRONtasy when the McP meets the WOPR in a fast-food battle of the burgers (not really, no).

Greetings, Programs!

SEN69 (Sheldon) joins SHAZ & SHUA on the GRID to continue the discussion about relationships between the PROGRAMS and USERS (of the RED TEAM) from the original TRON from 1982.  In this episode, we look at the MCP, SARK, GUARDS, and the oft-chided "Bit Brain".

You can be a part of the discussion as well by contacting us through email at podcast@TechnoRetroDads.com or leave a voice mail at (209)878-7323. You can also find us on Facebook and Twitter.  #TRONlives!
